Arsene Wenger is keeping to his word and has already began raiding the transfer budget starting with Bundesliga midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The 23 year old Swiss International has recently emerged as one of the most skilful midfielders in the Bundesliga. Former Switzerland and Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfield referred to Xhaka as the ‘Young Sweinsteiger’. He has also been referred to as ‘little Einstein’ due to his love for science, his intelligence in keeping possession and composure in the midfield area.
Xhaka is also known for his temperamental attitude on the pitch which has seen him recently receive a few red cards (3 in 30 matches). However, he consistently ranks in the top 30 for tackles and interceptions in the Bundesliga, which is the type of midfielder Arsenal are desperately lacking.
The Swiss certainly doesn’t score many, (just three goals this season out of 30 matches) but on the odd occasion he does score they are wonderful long range strikes, which have won him goal of the year twice in a row.
In an Interview in February Xhaka stated ‘Everybody has a dream. Everybody has a childhood dream and that’s mine (to play in the Premier League). If it comes true, it remains to be seen. At the moment I cannot say how realistic it is’.
Arsenal should finalise the deal with Granit Xhaka and Borrussia Mönchengladbach by the end of today.
