Mesut Ozil has admitted that Arsenal are to blame for screwing up their chances of winning a Premier League title since the 2003-2004 season.
Arsenal were top of the table in the middle of January and all eyes were on Arsenal to win the Premier League. But the Gunners only managed two wins out of nine matches and saw themselves fall eleven points from league leaders Leicester City. They now sit in 3rd place, 6 points behind North London rivals Tottenham with one game in hand.
What went wrong?
Arsenal were presented with their best chance to winning a Premier League trophy in 12 years with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all out for the count with their poor run ins this season.
Although Mesut Ozil has not discounted Arsenal from the title race, he certainly knows it’s their fault Arsenal have such a huge mountain to climb.
‘Looking at our season so far, we have to be honest and admit that we screwed up ourselves’ Ozil states.
‘We did not play to our potential in the games against the so called smaller teams. You immediately get punished for that in the Premier League’.
‘But we still have a chance of winning the title. We hope Leicester and Tottenham slip up and then make the most of it’.
‘I would be delighted for Wenger if we won the title. He played a major role in my decision to join Arsenal. He was desperate to sign me. Everybody knows he is an extraordinary manager. He is always hungry for success, has a lot of experience and always takes his time for the players. He helps players develop.’
With only 8 games left for Arsenal, the Gunners cannot afford to loose any of their remaining games if they stand a chance in winning this years league title.
